It’s a little known fact that GORUCK started out as just a gear company with 3 bags and a hat and the GORUCK Challenge was meant to test and promote the gear. But everything changed once Class 001 happened on September 25, 2010. The Challenge became our focus, building better Americans became our focus. People became our focus.

On May 2, 2014, I’ll be one of the Cadre in San Francisco for the 1,000th GORUCK Challenge. That’s 1,000 more than I planned on by the way, and to mark the occasion, a bunch of Cadre and a bunch of us from HQ are making it a destination weekend. Not hard to do in one of the most iconic cities in the world.

• May 1st: Our friends at Huckberry are hosting War Stories and Free Beer (with Buffalo Trace Bourbon on hand as well) on May 1 and we’ll have a bunch of GORUCK gear on hand.
• May 2nd: During The Challenge, you will be part of the Peace and Love Committee making its homecoming, touring San Francisco in a series of missions to save the city by making people smile, sometimes by singing. Yes, seriously. And yes, there will be a special patch. Then we’ll sleep off some good livin’ before…
• May 3rd: A Speed Scavenger (included when you sign up for the Challenge) that will seamlessly transition into hitting the town as one big happy (and possibly slightly sore) family.

The magic of GORUCK is the bond you form with other people in a few short (OK, sometimes long) hours, and how you take those experiences of overcoming together back to your daily lives. You have built GORUCK on this magic, grassroots style. 1,000 is a big number and we owe it all to you. So San Francisco here we come and come one, come all.
