“Every drop of Jameson Whiskey in the entire world is a County Cork drop, distilled right here in County Cork, Ireland. And this is something we are infinitely proud of.” So said our tour guide. I’m a fan of understanding how things are made, even if I couldn’t quote you for the life of me now what that exact process is. And if your last name is McCarthy and there are 6 more of you, it’s a good fit to come to Midleton and understand your roots a little more.
My grandfather was a whiskey drinker, a love he only casually passed on to my dad and me. Eventually, I believe, he forgave us. And homage is important, and watching my dad make his dad smile from the grave during a whiskey taste at the Jameson Distillery is a treasure. The takeaway is this: Even if you prefer beer, when you have the opportunity to do past generations proud, seize the moment.
Great post Jason – The Jameson distillery is on my bucket list for sure. I have a bottle of Middletons one of my good friends bought me and I’m looking forward to signing my name next to the bottle serial number one of these days.
Just to let ye know lads, over here it’s called County Cork! Looks like you enjoyed Middleton. Hope to see you’s in Dublin next year!
@ Patrick, well said. I made the change from Cork County to County Cork. My American english must have forgotten when I got back here to tell the tale.
